Mon's pointy boots...

Mon had some really pointy boots. They are black and had some external ankle straps. Very provocative! Again boots seem to be norm for this winter, as they were for last winter. Sorry for the poor quality pic.

FF and his Rolex GMT Master 2

We had dinner with FF and his wife Mon. FF was sporting his Rolex GMT Master 2 with a black bezel. Traditionally, the GMT is more commonly seen with a Red/Blue or Red/Black Bezel. As can be seen, the black bezel GMT it looks exactly the same as its Rolex cousins, the Submariner, and sometimes mistaken as such. The difference between a GMT and the Submariner lies in the extra hour time zone (for a second time zone), a 24 hour bi directional bezel (opposed to a 60 minute incremental uni directional bezel) and the difference in water resistance (Submariner being 300m compared to the GMT's 100m). Either Rolex watch are what I consider the ubiquitous sports watch.

Mark and his "beater" watch - Traser H3 Navigator

Mark was in town the other day (lives with his wife and two kids in Brisbane - Yes Mark, we know the food is average there at best and nothing is opened after 6.30pm in the city). I helped him buy a Rolex Seadweller a few years back. Mark has since replaced his Seadweller (on his wife's wrist now - just like H) with a Traser H3 Navigator. For Mark, he considers this as his beater. A "beater" is just that, a watch that you can wear and knock about and more or less not worry about. "Beater" is the name given to these type of watches by watch collectors. The Traser is cheap and purely functional. Now I'm not saying the Seadweller can't hold up to what a Traser can, but would you want to smack your $7000 AUD watch around or treat it like a $200 AUD beater....

My Bro's T-Shirt from Threadless.com

I noticed my bro wearing some cool T-Shirts of late - actually that all he wears outside work hours. What is unusual bout the T-Shirts are the quirky designs and the seamless sides. These are quality T-Shirts, similar to the Hanes originals. The body is made from one piece of material, hence the sides have no seams, making them so much more comfortable than regular T shirts.

He bought these on line from www.threadless.com, they have really cool designs and are "cheap". A nice thing also all the artwork seems to be original and once sold, they are rarely reprinted.

Nay's Cowbow Boots...

Nay has had these boot for a few months. I love the colour, a butterish, light brown. They stand out when wearing jeans and I assume other accoutrements. They are slightly rounded and quite simple with no elaborate design. Hence the stand out aspect of these boots is definitely the lightish colour. Classics!

H's Birthday present... early but she begged!

N's Red skirt and Brown Cowboy Boots

This is N's reversible skirt. One side (scanned) has a nice floral pattern, whilst the other is plain white. We went to an art gallery tonight, N's skirt and her outfit stood out. She wore a bright blue top and denim Jacket. She also had her cool Cowboy Boots. I think everyone should wear a bit of colour in their outfits, especially during Winter.

Mountain Goat Beer - Hightail Ale

I'm not normally a beer drinker as such. But the other night, I had a Mountain Goat Hightail Ale. This is one nice beer. It has the nice crispness of an ale but with a surprising fruity finish. Actually I've tasted nearly all the Mountain Goats and have really enjoyed them.

Mountain Goat is a small brewery in Richmond, Victoria. It is available at selected bars and restaurants. Try them if you get a chance!

Sam and his military inspired style

Sam is one of those guys who throws trends out the front door. He has his own style, which incidentally is quite fashionable of late. Sam wears "vintage" military, both original and reproduction. As can be seen, he has his cavalry boots on (one of several pairs). Every time I see him, he is sporting a new leather jacket inspired by practical military cuts of yesteryear. Sam was the one who gave me advice on my favourite leather jacket, the A-2 Flight Jacket.
Every time H and I are in town, and we see Sam, he always checks out her boots.

Ed's Vintage IWC

This is Ed's vintage 18kt Yellow Gold IWC. Made in 1970's with a Cliabre 8541 movement (considered to be one of the finest automatic movements ever!). What a classic and timeless watch.
Again all vintage watches are getting mighty expensive (from even 2 years ago) and even harder to find in good conditions.

Paneristi get together in Sydney

During the week I attended a Panerai Collectors "enthusiast" aka Paneristi, get together in Sydney. We were invited to the a new Panerai dealer - J Farren Price. It was great to see other paneristi and their numerous watches... There were approximately 30 Paneristi.

We moved on to a restaurant and continued our meanderings to the early hours of the morning.

H shopping sojourn at Sass and Bide

Yes H did it again this weekend. 3 T shirts and a few "other" things... Lucky it was at a Sass and Bide Sale. I like the second T shirt's indigo marl colour and the last T shirt's print!

Harry's new watch... Omega Speedmaster Professional aka The Moonwatch

This is Harry's new watch, a Omega Speedmaster Professional circa 1969. This watch, was worn to the Moon by the Apollo Astronauts. These are cult items and have a loyal following with collectors. The Moomwatch, has not changed in the last 35 years. Thus Harry's Moonwatch could be easily mistaken for a modern Moonwatch.

I apologise for being tardy...

I've been reminded by friends and supporters nearly everyday that I have not updated my blog. No excuse, just ran out of time (ironic considering the predicament I'm in - for people who know me).

I will hopefully post pictures of people in the streets by the end of this weekend!

Plastic Crystal Rolexes...

I don't preach much about certain watches, but I have noticed that Plastic Crystal Rolexes, in particular Submariners and Seadwellers, are getting rarer and rarer to find. These Plastic crystal Rolexes are all vintage as the current versions are synthetic Sapphire. The prices of the Plastic Rolexes are sky rocketing. For example; Ref 1680 White Dial Submariner 4 year ago would be around $3800 - $4200 AUD. Now they go for around $5500 - $6000 AUD.

Vintage Rolexes have a charm and character in which the modern versions don't exhibit. I guess anyone can walk into a Rolex dealer and buy a new Submariner (one of the best sellers), but getting a nice Plastic Submariner is another matter of sytle.

Enough preaching... I will something more about these later.

H and her happy shoes!

H bought these a while back from Shag. They really brighten up any outfit. The slightly glossy finish and the gems (plastic) give them a unique look.

H and what she wore yesterday ...

H wore her favourite Diane von Furstenberg dress. She matched it with some beautiful and ornately patterned stockings and her grey heels.

Winter is great for girls, as they such a wide variety of clothes. Small items like stockings can really give an outfit some legs (pardon the pun).
